Abandoned Coal Mine Stabilization

A unique grouting technique was used to stabilize a section of roadway which was located directly above an abandoned coal mine. Approximately 60 columns were installed.

Small diameter steel pipes (1½') were inserted inside of large diameter (24" - 30") cylinder shaped Fabriform sleeves, then lowered through bore holes drilled into the voids of the abandoned mine. A cement/sand grout was pumped through the steel injection pipe into the Fabriform Sleeve to inflate the fabric cylinder (or column) to its maximum diameter. The Fabriform grout columns were placed on approximate 10 foot grid spacings.
