Dam Reconstruction - Douthat Dam in Douthat State Park, Bath County, Virginia was reconstructed which included excavation and placement of roller compacted concrete on the downstream dam embankment and strengthening of the existing concrete masonry spillway with post-tensioned anchors. Technical Foundations was selected to install the post tensioned anchors. A DTH (down the hole) hammer was used to drill the anchor holes through the concrete spillway and into the bedrock. Nine Anchors (4-strand, 140 kip working capacity) were installed and anchored into the bedrock and tensioned, effectively anchoring the structure to the foundation rock.

Haxall Canal Gate Project in Richmond, VA required 18 anchors designed as HP 8x36 steel beams drilled and grouted with 15’ - 18’ embedment into rock.

Addition to Wastewater Treatment Plant in Virginia Beach required steel pipe minipiles for a building addition due to wet, soft soils adjacent to the existing building. 7" diameter minipiles x 80’ depth (18 foot bond zone). 50 ton capacity minipiles were installed in limited headroom of 13 feet.

FABRIFORM EROSION CONTROL Fabric Forms for Concrete Revetments A landfill project in Virginia required the replacement of rip rap-lined down-chute channels which failed during heavy rains. 4" Articulating Block Fabriform® was installed to handle heavy storm water channel flow.

Abandoned Coal Mine Stabilization under West Broad St in Richmond, VA required a unique grouting technique to stabilize a section of roadway which was located directly above an abandoned coal mine. Approximately 60 columns were installed. Small diameter steel pipes (1˝') were inserted inside of large diameter (24" - 30") cylinder shaped Fabriform sleeves, then lowered through bore holes drilled into the voids of the aband0oned mine. A cement/sand grout was pumped through the steel injection pipe into the Fabriform Sleeve to inflate the fabric cylinder (or column) to its maximum diameter. The Fabriform grout columns were placed on approximate 10 foot grid spacings.

Compaction Grouting Several sections of roadway settled in the vicinity of leaking joints in an 84 inch diameter storm sewer pipe. Compaction grout was used to stabilize the soils around the pipe to prevent further settlement of the roadway. Low slump grout is injected under high pressure to form bulbs and columns as the grout is injected from the grout pipe. Grout pressure compacts and densifies the soil in a controlled placement of material at each trout hole location.
